Dimension and Dream

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”
― Andy Warhol, The Philosophy of Andy Warhol

Speaking of change, a big one is coming my way.  My husband and I are buying a condo.  I've lived in apartments since 2010 when I divorced my first husband.  I hate to think of all the money I've lost on rent, money that could have been used to build equity in a house.  At the same time, I have appreciated living in an apartment because the grass is cut, the snow is shoveled, and the maintenance is taken care of.  We've been wanting a condo, but there is a shortage of them in the area we live in.  Finally, one became available, and we fell in love with it.  It will be nice because, like an apartment, the grass is cut, the snow is shoveled, and outdoor maintenance is taken care of by the homeowners' association.  This is important to me because I have MS, and need someone else to take care of the yardwork and outside home maintenance.  My husband is 73 and will not always be able to do those things.

There is a lot that needs to be done before we move in.  We close on the house on December 10th.  A team of four people is scheduled to move us out of the apartment and into the house on January 10th, and on January 11th, someone is coming to the apartment to clean it for us.  Between December 10th and January 10th, we will remodel parts of the condo.  We will take up the carpeting throughout the house and replace it with wood-like flooring, as well as have all the walls painted.  We'll install a security system and change all the locks.  The seller is supposed to make some repairs, too.

One thing I will miss about this apartment is the sliding glass door that looks out to a big yard.  Across the yard is a corn and soybean field.  There are lots of different kinds of animals that come up to the door and our cats love watching them.  Luckily, there are lots of squirrels in the neighborhood where the condo is, according to a neighbor we met.

This will be a big change for us.  It will be the fourth time we've moved in less than five years.  It will be the last time we move, too!   Moving is very stressful for me.  It will also be stressful for our two cats, Sheba, and Loki.  I look forward to the day it's all finished.  When we get moved in, I will post pictures on the picture page of this blog.

Ephemeral Reality
